My great great grandfather was Alexander McRae, a lighthouse keeper, who was born in Avoch, the Black Isle (near Inverness) and later moved to Cromarty [with his father John McRae and wife Jean (or Jane)] before embarking on a series of postings at lighthouses around Scotland. Does anyone have any information about his brothers (George, Donald, John, James), or ancestors? I suspect that the brothers emigrated.
Alexander married a Mary Campbell from Pollokshaws, Glasgow, and had several children - Jane (or Jean/ Jeanne) b.1855, Janet (or Jessie) - my g grandmother-, John, Thomas, Alexander, and Mary. Jane emigrated to Ohio, Jessie lived near Stirling, Scotland (married John Wilson Biggar), John became a distillery manager in Glasgow. Mary and Thomas were both teachers, but I haven't been able to track down Thomas and Alexander beyond their late teens in Scotland.
I would be interested in any links.
