Hi, My name is Jacquie McRae. I am a writer and live in New Zealand. I am coming to Scotland to do some research on Mary Mcrae who came from kintail to new zealand in 1872. She trained as a distiller perhaps in Sallachy or kintail. I would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction of distilleries that I should perhaps investigate while in this area

There were many skilled distillers in the Sallachy area, from whom she may have learned the skill. The nearest distillery in operation now, and I think then, is Talisker on the Isle of Skye. Wikipedia has a lovely map showing the distilleries of Scotland, google it.

Thanks for that information, Tina.I love that we live in a time that we can ask a question and someone on the other side of the world can supply an answer.
