My name is Michael McGrath. I've been researching my Clan's name and in doing so discovered that the MacRae's are of the same people when the McGrath's moved over to Scotland. I'm interested in knowing to what degree they are associated if anyone knows. Also in searching for proper family coats of arms I came across a page where there were three different MacRae coats of arms and along side of them was the McGrath coat of arms. Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Michael,
Happy to reply. We are one and the same clan, originating in Ireland. Please note that Coats of Arms belong to individuals, not surnames or clans. Best wishes, Cornelia W. Bush, CLS, FSA Scot.

Hi, as far as i'm aware, McGrath is the Gaelic for Macrae. I am from the Islands of Scotland, and the female form Gaelic is 'Nic crath'. Over the years this gave way to a sect McGrath. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
