My Alexander McRae (farmer) married Ann Beaton, abt 1835. Their daughter Hellen was born abt 1837, Lochalsh, Scotland. They emigrated to Australia abt 1838 & settled around Cobbity (1844 to 1851), Liverpool ( 1850's) Mittagong/Nattai ( 1860 to 1883). Had a further 8 known children. Ones known are:
Patrick - married Mary Loughnane,
Possibly also John & Alexander.
Alexander died in 1883 - his father was a John McRae. Unknown when Ann died.
Seems a Farquhar McRae also of Mittagong was a cousin.
I am descended from Helen - married William Samuel.

Hello Margaret

My name is Mark McRae and I am a direct descendant (grandson)of Patrick McRae and Mary Loughnane of Wombat in NSW.

My recollection of recounted family history (and this is all from memory) is that Patrick's parents and eldest sister came out from Dornie on the William Nicholl (sic?) in 1836-7.

As far as we can work out we are descended from John Breac - but I will have to retrace steps and do some homework on that one.

Patrick and his older brother John farmed in the Demondrille-Wombat district but also held land in the Mittagong and Minto areas. I think that John was born in 1842 and Patrick in 1852 (I can check this).

Our family would truly love to hear from you. I am not THE family historian, my sister is. She lives at Wombat (as does one of my boys - another Alexander McRae)and I live with my wife, Beth, at Murrumbateman (near Yass).

It would be wonderful to make contact.

I know my reply is a bit late (a year). I have been looking at this site as I am planning a trip to Scotland this year. You mentioned Farquhar MacRae of Mittagong. My Great, great, great Grandfather was a Farquhar MacRae and lived in Mittagong. He came to Australia in 1837 aboard the William Nicol with his wife Barbara and his children John and Mary. He had either a cousin or brother Alexander who came on the ship with him. Farquhar's parents were John and Christina.

I have copies of family tree info given to me by an Aunt who did a fair bit of work on it all.
