I am searching for information on my Great Uncle Alexander MacRae born Cromarty Scotland prior to 1900, killed in WW1, brother of William G. MacRae (my grandfather, b.1900,d.1975) emigrated to Canada post WW1. I have an award presented to my Great Grandmother by King George VI in honour of my g. uncle at Niagara Falls Canada June 7, 1939. i cannot determine whether he served in a Scottish Brigade only or both Scottish and Canadian Brigades leading to his death and I am the last male MacRae of my line having 4 daughters. any help from other MacRaes worldwide would be appreciated.

Hi Fiona thanks for the response, i had hoped to find the answer through this forum but ended up learning this and much more through the Great War Forum, i have much more research to do ahead of my planned trip to Scotland, England and of course the site of my great Uncles grave in France in August 2008. do you have any form of special access to information? i have been trying to research his naval service prior to enlisting in the camerons and also his fathers naval service as well as that of his brother (my grandfather), thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer
