This is a bit of a shot in the dark. My great grandfather was named Edward P. Rae. He was I believe from Ireland-I suspect Northern Ireland and immigrated into the United States at Boston in 1889 approx. Family history says that he was a sergeant-major in the British army, and served in both the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny. If this rings a bell with anybody, I would appreciate any info you might have. Thanks.

I don't know if we're connected or not but there are a lot of similarities, that I am thinking my great-grandfather and yours may be related. My GG's name was Ernest Rae. He was of Scottish ancestry but was born in Ireland. From a ship's manifest I have, he and his brother Samuel came in 1900 and sailed from Liverpool, England to Philadelphia. They stayed with their married sister, Alice Wels and her husband Arthur Wels in Trenton, NJ. I found a 1900 census record that lists them all there in NJ as of June 5, 1900. I also have 1920 census record that lists Ernest's parents birth places. While it doesn't list their names, it does list the place of birth. Ernest's father was born in Australia and his mother was born in Wales. I know through our family that Ernest had many siblings. Some came to the US, some didn't. Here are the names I know of: Alice, Elsie, Fred, Robert, and Samuel. I know there are more but those were the names my father could remember and some that I found through other sources, like the ship's manifest. If we are related, I would really like to know what Ernest's parents' names were.
