Firstly, my surname isn't that of McRae but McCreight, but I signed up and posted wondering if McCreight was perhaps some sort of bastardization of McRae due to the fact that they sound so similar. (Should note that I'm from the U.S) I've heard my grandfather tell stories about David McCreight and his family in their servic to General Washington during the revolutionary war (which I'll be happy to share if anyone is interested). But this David apparently migrated with his family to Ireland from Scotland due to mistreatment by the English and shortly afterwards to America from Ireland due to mistreatment by the Irish. I haven't found any public records detailing David's ancestors or possible relation to the main branch of the family, if anyone has any information about this branch, they'd be suing me a great service in satisfying a curiosity I've had for a long time.
